Final Senate Veto Overrides

with one comment

On the last day of the 2010 session, the Senate sustained 4 and overrode 52 of the governor’s remaining budget vetoes. Previously, the House had sustained 51 of the governor’s 107 budget vetoes.

Meeting yesterday, the Senate did not sustain any vetoes regarding other bills. They did, however, carry over the governor’s veto of H 4542. This means the bill will not become law. The House had previously overridden this veto.

H 4542 would have allowed the release of ethics investigation documents upon a finding of probable cause. The governor vetoed the bill because it applied to all public officials except state legislators. Debate regarding the measure indicated that legislators intend to apply similar rules to themselves – but through a rule change, rather than by statute.

The Senate also overrode vetoes on the following bills:
S 1372: regarding use of bonds for school operating expenses in Sumter County
H 3790: regarding mortgage/payday lenders
H 4187: removes 25-year limit on airport leases
H 4715: transfer of Jefferson National Guard Armory to Chesterfield County
S 1392: creates a broad range of new license plates (this veto was not overridden in the House, so the bill will not become law)
H 3541: new bear hunting license/fee
